Testing... testing... 1 2 3... Am I still cancer free?

Welcome yet again to another episode of Do I Have Cancer!

Today we'll be testing to find out whether "Eric with a C " is actually still Eric without the C." On the docket are the standard hand and chest x-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound of my lymph nodes, exciting stuff! If guessed correctly, contestants win.... absolutely nothing but the satisfaction of having guessed correctly.

What a crappy game show.

Still, it's fun to be regularly scanned and studied although not as much as folks on dialysis or business travelers that fly wearing turbans. I do not envy them.

On a much happier note, some relatives of mine who were also affected with cancer got featured in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News up in Alaska. I didn't even know they were up there but Alaska is a pretty cool place from what I hear, no pun intended.

They're up there for the 2011 Mayor's Marathon which raises money for cancer research and I know they've been promoting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation for some time now. I need to get off my butt and do a 5k or triathlon for the cause too but as of the moment, I'm yet to contribute much more than my time and experience.

The photos I've included in this post are actually of a WaterNow benefit concert I got to be a part of a few weeks back on the day before Memorial Day. Does that count for something even though it's not cancer related? I sure hope so! :)

Sometimes people survive. Sometimes sarcoma subsides. Ten years of testing. Surgical interjection. Physical therapy. Getting on with it. It's clear. The tests are clear. The implications of that aren't. I don't have any more scheduled check ups. Just come back if there are concerns... Cancer-related ones specifically (of course). So now... Eri? Now what? Better, smarter, more accomplished men & women than I have walked through those doors but aren't walking this earth today. I am. Now what? Gratefulness. Responsibility. Restlessness. Humility. The journey didn't end, just the ritual. Chances are that something will pop back up eventually but there's no sense lingering on that. I'll enjoy not having to pay for an MRI every year (or more frequently). I'll try not to squander this added bonus time. The Phantom

Hello again! I'm not dead, I'm just being haunted by the ghost of finger past which is actually fairly manageable. As I type this I'm using both hands at varying degrees of proficiency. Let me tell you it is really stinkin' weird. The past several days I've been off pain medications completely which may explain the spike in feeling the finger that is not. My senses are apparently so familiar with the ghost digit that my brain is still trying to press keys with that finger. This blog is actually the first time I've tried typing properly with all the fingers I do have. Previously it's been just my thumb or pinkie for various letters or pressing the shift button. Cool. :) The sensations are sometimes tingling, sometimes normal movement sensations, sometimes the feeling that it is asleep, and sometimes it just throbs a bit. It is intermittent but more frequent, again probably correlating with more mobility and lack of pain inhibitors. Touching the remaining fing
